Louis Tomlinson - How Did I Get Here? Tour

After three years, Louis Tomlinson returned to Boston to a packed crowd at TD Garden. Boston is the 21st stop on the North American leg of his “How Did I Get Here?” World Tour. Louis previously performed in Beantown in 2023 for the “Faith In The Future” Tour in MGM Music Hall at Fenway. MGM holds approximately 5,000 people whereas TD Garden holds approximately 20,000 people. Definitely an upgrade! The bigger venue allowed Louis to add more lighting and higher definition videos and graphics to accentuate the concert experience.
The Aces and The Beaches served as the opening acts for the tour.
The Show
At around 9 pm, a big blue question mark is lasered on the screen followed by flashing images of Louis in a car. Louis, dressed in a loose short-sleeved white button shirt and oversized jeans, kicks off the show with “Lemonade”, the first single off the “How Did I Get Here?” album. He continues the show with “On Fire” and “Written All Over Your Face”.
The setlist included: “Out Of My System”, “Saturdays”, “Broken Bones”, “Lucid”, “Jump The Gun”, “Imposter”, “Sanity”, “Last Night”, “Face The Music”, “The Observer”, “The Answer”, and “Send me Under”.
Favorite Songs of The Night
While I enjoyed his performances of “Lazy” and “Sunflowers” from “How Do I Get Here?”, most of my favorite performances were from his previous albums: “Walls” and “Faith In The Future”. Such examples include “Silver Tongues”, “Kill My Mind”, and “Miss You”. Moreover, I really liked his acoustic performance of “Defenceless”. It was just Louis and his guitarist, allowing Louis’s vocals and lyrics to carry through the crowd. Simple yet impactful.
Tribute to Liam Payne
Louis carved out time during the show to remember his late friend and former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne. Louis performed the song “Dark to Light”. It was an emotional and intimate performance. Even from afar, I could tell Louis is still dealing with the passing of Liam.
Nights Changes ( One Direction tribute)
Louis’s performance of “Night Changes” was, by far, my favorite moment of the night! Yes I may be bias because that is my favorite One Direction/BoyBand Ballad. The performance definitely provoked nostalgia of the One Direction days. The stadium lights dimmed to a dark blue and Louis is placed under a pink spotlight. The crowd cheers as the band starts playing the familiar cords. As Louis starts singing, the crowd starts singing along with him. It was another intimate performance filled with love in the air.
Louis and the Louies
The Directioners and the Louies fandoms showed up in strong support of Louis. Majority of the fans wore sunflowers on their outfits after Louis’s “Sunflowers” song. Louis definitely appreciated and recognized their support. Throughout the show, Louis constantly expressed his gratitude for the fans. From time to time, Louis held out the microphone to crowd to sing his lyrics back to him. Towards the end of the show, he boldly makes his way to the floor to be closer to the fans.
Closing
Louis closed the show with “Palaces”. The concert lasted approximately one hour and 30 minutes. Though I wished the concert lasted longer considering the venue. He should have included the songs: “Walls”, “Always You”, and “Chicago”. Note for next time Louis!
