John Legend - The Bigger Love Tour
The Bigger Love Tour was my first John Legend’s concert and definitely will NOT be my last! I enjoyed every minute of this concert. John is a definite showman and knows how to deliver a performance.
The VIP Experience
Prior to the concert, I came to the Orpheum Theater early to do the VIP Experience with John. And it was worth it! VIPers were treated to a glass of wine from John’s LUV collection where John gave a toast.
Then we stood in line to meet and take our picture with John. Because this is the first concert since the pandemic, there were some social distance requirements in place to keep both the performers and the audience safe. We weren’t able to get close to John and hug him or shake his hand. When we took our picture, a glass wall separated me and John. However, they decorated the wall with flowers so it doesn't resemble a barricade. And I could still talk to John directly.
From my interaction with him, I will say John is who he is on TV. Such a charismatic gentleman. He was incredibly patient as he met each VIP with a huge smile on his face. I remember I was worried as I was meeting him, I was quickly putting my lipstick on, no mirror and walking to the photo booth. I had asked the concert organizer if my lipstick looked okay. John had heard me and yelled “You’re Beautiful!”
And I felt my heart leap!! People’s Sexiest Man Alive who is married to the one of the most gorgeous women in the world, called me beautiful! I almost wanted to faint. Fortunately, I managed to collect myself and pose for the picture.
John and I managed to chat shortly after taking the picture. I told him I root for Team Legend on the Voice and that I’m a big fan of both him and Chrissy, especially her food. He is absolutely the sweetest.
And John carries that charisma to the stage.
The Main Event
I was initially expecting John to sit and play the piano the entire time on stage. I would have totally been fine with that. But, I was pleasantly surprised John provides so much more. . He moves around the stage with the microphone and engages the audience. He definitely strikes a balance between sitting at piano and dancing on the stage. The concert included a full band on stage with guitarists, drummers, trumpet, trombone, and saxophone players. And three gorgeous back up singers with amazing vocals! The whole show was just lively, energetic, and so colorful. There was never a dull moment.
John performed almost all of his classic hits, including “Ordinary People” and “All of Me'' and some new songs that he planned to release later. My favorite performance, though, was John’s rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”. John’s voice in the song was just so powerful and so moving. And the way he played that song on the piano and commanded that instrument was riveting and building in anticipation. And the acoustics at the Orpheum theater was amazing!
Overall, John Legend - Bigger Love Tour was an amazing night and I totally recommend it!
