How To Survive A Long Concert Night

Recent discussions on a Justin Timberlake Facebook group on appropriate times to go to the bathroom prompted me to write this post. Also I figured concert goers need helpful  guidelines in time for the summer concerts!

1. Eat a large meal beforehand

You are going to be up for a long time dancing and partying along while your favorite artist. You are going to need that energy. Make sure you nourish yourself! Eat something at home or go to dinner with your concert friends before the show. If your concert takes place that serves food, definitely take advantage of the menu!

2. Hydrate yourself

Along with the first tip, make sure you drink enough water. You will be spending the night singing along to your favorite songs, not to mention screaming when prompted. You need to stay well hydrated and not end up losing your voice!

3. Go to the bathroom BEFORE the show starts

You don’t want to miss any moment of your show! If you need to go to the bathroom, please go before your favorite artist enters the stage. Or, try to go in between sets. If you can, hold it till the end of the show. You don’t want to be stuck in the bathroom stall while your favorite artist is singing your favorite song.

4. Bring your power banks!

I mentioned this in my Six Must-Haves in My Concert Survival Bag post. You are going to be in the crowd out all night with no outlet in sight. You are going to need to pack external batteries for your phone. I usually bring two just to be safe. Even if you don’t plan to record videos during the show, I strongly suggest bringing power banks. You are going to need to show your digital ticket, communicate with your concert friends, take pictures and request the uber/lyft rides to/from the venue.

5. Wear flat shoes

Whether you have a general admission ticket or an assigned seat ticket, you are going to be standing the whole night and dancing along. Your feet are going to be tired by the show. I strongly suggest wearing flat shoes be it ballet flats, sandals or sneakers. They are also much easier to dance with anyways! And you won’t feel so much pain when leaving the venue.

Bonus suggestion!

6. Take a nap during the day!

This might not always be possible if your concert falls on a week day. However, if your concert falls on a weekend or you have free time, I highly advise you to take a 2 hour nap. That way you feel fresh and relaxed and your body is energized for the concert!
